CD25 boom vangs
I am in the process of rigging a newly purchased CD25 and noticed that there was no boom vang.(nor does it appear that it ever had one) will the boat sail ok with out one especially downwind? and did anyone ever retrofit one and how did it perform?

I use a 'portable' boom vang as a preventer when downwinding. I keep it just inside the cabin under the first step, when downwinding, I pull it out and attach one end the boom and other end to an eye fitting on the genny track. Although I have to switch it when jibing, it prevents accidental jibes. Works fine.

Re: CD25 boom vangs
The CD25s, at least the early ones were rigged for roller reefing, hence no boom vang. The roller reefing system on the CD25 dosn't work well. I tried it once years ago on a relatively calm day. I wouldn't want to try it on a rough day. If you boat hasn't been rigged for jiffy reefing I recommend that you do so. I would also recomend that you add a vang. It will significantly improve off wind performance.
