Hi, Vonnie! Here's my recollections, from about 5-6 years back when I talked to the various folks who had gotten Cape Dory molds.Vonnie Pedersen wrote: I didn't know that cape dory made a 40' trawler, does anyone have any information about them. I think that Hull #1 was done or mostly so when Cape Dory went out of business. There's a lovely review in Boating magazine of June 1992, and it already lists Cape Dory as being in Amityville, New York, which is where Newport Yachts was located - the company that bought the Cape Dory name.
When I bought my CD 30 powerboat, the summer of 1993, the dealer in San Diego told me that they had had orders for the 40 and eventually dropped them due to delays and lack of delivery. The guy at Newport subsequently told me that they had delivered half a dozen 40s, mostly on the East Coast, though one was up in the Pacific Northwest.
And that's all I know. I've never seen one for sale.

I found a news release from Newport Shipyards dated Oct 24, 1991 about the Cape Dory 40 Explorer. If you want I can copy it and send it to you by snail mail. Let me know if you'd like to see it. It's 4 pages including line drawings.Vonnie Pedersen wrote: I didn't know that cape dory made a 40' trawler, does anyone have any information about them.
