A thoughtful suggestion was made on being sure to replace the bronze axle pins in the steering idler wheels with SS pins, while I had the steering bracket out. So I thought I'd show one of the bronze pins I found..... about half worn through by the support bracket itself. All the pins show some wear, but this one was far worse for some reason.

Son of a gun ! Are you the same person that had your rusted steering bracket repaired and welded posting last week ? You really dodged a bullet......twice. How old is this system, is it original to the boat ? This degradation is a great example why we need to do the under cockpit crawl and check our gear at least yearly. Thanks for bringing it up.

Don't forget the bushings.
My boat was a 1982 and when I replaced my bronze pins I also bought a set of bushings for the pulleys and replaced them as well. Given how worn your pins are perhaps you should consider doing the same.
