All;
Pictured below is a picture of a collapsible dinghy I saw as I was coming out of the Atlantic Highlands harbor area. I know a number of people have talked a length about various dinghy options. I have no idea what kind it is, other than it appears to be collapsible.
Just looking at it, not my cup of tea, but the only opinion that counts is that of the owner!
Enjoy!

Another fine example of a beautiful boat and bone ugly tender.
I love having, Feather, my CD-10, floating off the stern of Raven. I hate towing her when things start to get dicey.
Two dinghies seem to be the best answer for me. A nice hard dinghy for most trips and a roll up inflatable for those trips when you know the hard dinghy is going to badly misbehave.
There is no easy way out of this, Steve.

Re: Porta-Bote?
I think you are correct. A few years ago, while crewing for former CDSOA Commodore Peter van der Kam, who was towing his assembled Porta-Bote, we were hailed by a stranger in Huntington, NY. We were on a mooring in the harbor when this imperfect stranger yelled, "What a ugly damned dingy." He was rude, but he was correct.

Porta Bote has its place.
I've actually been tempted to get one. The majority of my sailing is day-sailing off a mooring. Not everyone keeps their boat at a marina or has access to a launch service. Many of us access our boats from a boat ramp. It would be really cool to pull one of these out of the back of my car, unfold it, and row out to my boat and leave it on my mooring until I return at the end of the day. There's no trailer to worry about, and no inflating/de-flating an RIB. There is no perfect boat, only a perfect fit. This may fit perfectly for some. Aesthetics is only one factor to consider. But first, it has to meet your basic needs of getting yourself from point A to point B.
