Swim Ladder Alternative

Going through my boatyard, saw this boat with a different approach to a swim ladder.

Note folding step mounted on rudder, and an additional step mounted higher on transom.

As long as the tiller (like all good boats, it has a tiller! ) is locked in place, it should work well.

Just a thought provoking idea! (Not my boat by the way!)

That seems to be a common arrangement on cat boats. The problem with our boats is that we don't have those big stern hung rudders but do have overhanging transoms.

I am planning a step of some sort to hang off of my wind vane braces. Not sure if it will be rigid or a rope hung step. I can climb up into the boat now by using the bracket but it doesn't make for the most comfortable footing.

I suppose it all depends on how able you are and how bad you want to get back on board, Steve.

There was a thread here posting a picture of one of those on the transom of a CD25, and I plan on mounting one for MOB use (and therefore hope to never actually use it). Defender has them here:
