Evergreen is going north also

Post by Evergreen »

Evergreen (CD36) will also be travelling north along the east coast of Nova Scotia, and hopefully on up the Newfoundland this summer. We will be leaving from the Chesapeake in the middle of June and returning to Maine in October.

Do you know when you will be going?

Are there any other boats out there that are thinking of going?

We would love share part of our trip with, or at least encounter other Cape Dorys out there along the way.

Wondering if, besides Minke, Evergreen, and Kerry Deare, there are any others who may also be in the Maritimes this summer, particularly on the Eastern Shore, the Lakes, and points East. Let's hear about you.

Maritimes in 2010 Update

Post by The Patriot »

So far we think both Evergreen and Kerry Deare will be trying for Newfoundland this season. I have not heard back from other yachts on this board so far.

Typically we depart for Nova Scotia in early July and just push on in the general direction of our destination (NF South Coast). With luck we may even get there, but in any case there is nothing shabby about destinations in between so this type of trip is "no lose." If you or someone you know is heading in that direction this summer, we'd like to hear from them.

Hi Len, did you ever make this trip?

We are thinking of making this trip next year, before the hurricane season gets in full swing - like June or July. If I recall you've done this a few times.....

Interesting in hearing from others too who have gone: about how you've made the trip - all straight through or stops, and where, and has anyone taken a dog into NS?

How long should we allow to stay there?
Cruising guides, etc.

Thanks!
Melissa

Len & Melissa,

I too have been considering a trip to Nova Scotia next summer and would be interested in speaking to others who have gone or are thinking of going next summer.

Having made the trip to Bermuda this last summer I am thinking of keeping a little closer to home next summer.

Seems I haven't bumped into you all this summer. I heard about your recent shortened trip due to the hurricane.Better a shortened trip than being hit by a real storm while sailing so close to shore.

As for Nova scotia. I did not make it to NS this summer. Couldn't find anyone foolhardy enough to spend two weeks with me. I did get to Canada however. - New Brunswick, Grand Mannan, Campobello etc. Single handed it took (from portland) only five days to round the northern tip of Campobello, via the coastal route. Would really love to go back to NS.. Bas D'or.. via gulf route next summer. Maybe I can work up the courage to go by myself next summer or anytime with crew. Interested ??
I'm still in the water. Hopefully until Nov.1.( Crew always welcome)
After twenty five years I will no longer haul out at Handy! With all the facility repairs and decline of moorings their repair overcharges has become their way of making up for revenues shortfalls.
