I am considering a 1983 cd27 in excellent shape. It is obvious this boat has been well maintained. The hull, interior, rig, rigging, sails, engine, and deck are in great shape. My question is: What is a fair price for this boat of this vintage and make?

cd27 Whats a good deal?

Re: cd27 Whats a good deal?
It depends on where the boat is and where it's been sailed. Fresh water also makes a difference. Checking the Buc page (www.buc.net) I get a bristol 83 27' (13 HP) in the NE is between 26,400 to 29,400. I think BUC prices are sometimes higher than what you should expect to pay. Check out the page and also look at yachtworld.com and soundings for cd listings.Steve wrote: I am considering a 1983 cd27 in excellent shape. It is obvious this boat has been well maintained. I think there was some discussion earlier about CD going rates this year was up 10-15% from last. You might search the site.
BTW, a 27 is a really nice CD.

Steve;
An '83 27 in really good shape? I would venture a guess that anything in the low 20's is a fair price, under 20 is a steal. Alot depends on survey, recent material upgrades and maintenance, as well as how many toys are thrown in. Good material upgrades and recent maintenance would be such as recent repower, new standing rigging, barrier coat, Awlgrip topsides, etc--they're all worth alot. Toys worth extra are a nice dinghy, new electronics (under warranty). Evidence of regular maintenance

I just bought one after going on the net for two minths and driving everyone nutsBob Loewenstein wrote:It depends on where the boat is and where it's been sailed. Fresh water also makes a difference. I would say from 17 to 22 depending on what goodies it has
ikeep in mind that you will always need to do things to the boat and hauling and masting as well surveying will cost a min of $1,000
a rebuild engine will be 25oo min
bottom job 1k
sails etc can add up quickly..
with that said when you sit in her and take your first trip it will be well worth it..
even if you over pay one day when you sell her you will no miss the few thousand you spent extra,
a boat is worth what the buyer and seller agree on after all is said and done

Re: cd27 Whats a good deal?--No price is too high!
You want a good deal or a good boat. What's it worth to you.
Re: cd27 Whats a good deal?
I purchased CD 27 new in 1981, kept her in Bristol condition, and in '95 sold her for 17,500-a"steal" for my friend who purchased her.Steve wrote: I am considering a 1983 cd27 in excellent shape. Now after buying and selling a CD 36, I purchased a '77 CD 27 for 10,000 which required a lot of TLC to get her in sailable and beautiful condition. My friend who purchased my original 27 is now trying to sell, and has not found a buyer.
My response has 2 main points. First, forget the BUC values except as a rough guide. My 36 was "valued" at about 78K, but I had to let her go for 53K. It's what the market will bear. Most important, is that the 27 is a sea-kindly, easy to sail, pretty sloop. After owning two, I can verify you won't be disappointed.
