Typhoon weekender mast post

I need to put a mast post in the cabin of my typhoon. How?? What materials and location? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

PS Thanks to all for the replies on my CD10 project. She came out of her restoration great.

Tom,

I put an oak post into my 1976 weekender with a basement jack ($15) base at the bottom. This is a bit overbuilt but I can adjust the force by twisting the jack. I put a base of oak at the bottom, under the jack and a "beam" that spreads the load over the cabin overhead. None of this is permanent as I was waiting to see how it worked over the season. I has not fallen out or moved so I will keep it. Also, the rig stays tensioned and the coachroof does not sag.

I have what I beleive is a factory retrofit kit in my weekender. I have the installation diagrams, and can copy them and fill in the measurments. Send me a physical address; I'll get them out next week to you. I think any marine metal fabricator could whip one up cheap for you. It's an easy installation.

I constructed a post from oak and placed it directly under the mast plate. I supported the lower end with a metal plate. it's worked great for three years of 12 month sailing in Florida

Thanks for the replies. I built the mast post out a hardwood banister post and a couple of pieces of oak. Move the coach roof up about 3 inches. What a difference. Launch this weekend. Happy sailing
