Does anyone have any experiance in cleaning The interior cusions? I took the covers off the foam and took them to a Dry Cleaner who told me they couldn't be Dry Cleaned because of the vinyl on the bottom. I'm afraid to wash then because of shrinkage. If they shrink just a little bit, I'll never get them back on. Thanks for any advise.

How to clean interior cushions?
Moderator: Jim Walsh
try a carpet cleaners
they are herculon, dry cleaning will destroy them. try a steam cleaning carpet place that also does couches, etc. i had my 26 done last fall for $60 or so and they look good.Dennis Truett wrote: Does anyone have any experiance in cleaning The interior cusions? Re: Dennis, DON'T......put 'em back on foam!!!!
Dennis,
DON'T try to clean them off of the foam. As you say, a little shrinkage, and you're all done. Put them back on the foam, and go to the supermarket and rent a Rug Doctor carpet cleaner with the upholstery tool. Use the Rug Doctor cleaning solution and their stain remover solution too if necessary.
When actually cleaning, spray the cushion, about 2 feet square, scrub lightly with a soft scrub brush, and then pass the cleaner wand over the same area while applying cleaning solution. I think you will find that this process extracts a lot of "mud" from the cushions. At least it did on Hanalei, we thought the cushions were grey, they were really blue and grey flecked plaid, if that is a proper description! The Rug Doctor really made a difference for us!
Do this on a nice sunny day, good drying conditions, we spread the cushions out on the deck at home and let them air dry. Whole process took only a few hours.
Hope you get the covers back on. That may be the toughest thing you need to do first! Again, don't wash the covers off of the cushions!
Good luck....

Maybe I've been lucky, but I have washed the interior cushions in a machine with cold water and air dried them. I had no trouble getting them back on. I did the same thing several times with my previous boat. The foam does give some which helps get them back on. However, if you do try this and they shrink, you never read this posting. Good luck.

Re: How to clean interior cushions?
Did the covers on my 25D cushions two years ago. Washed them with Woolite in the bath tub with hot water. Unbelievable mud resulted requiring several rinses until clear. Also replaced corroded sippers with new plastic ones from Sailrite. Air dried inside since it was winter, this took about two days. I also replaced the foam and the foam guys reinstalled the covers so I didn't wrestle with that. They look great. Good luck with your project. dvw

Re: washing machine not a problem for me
Warren,
I've removed the covers from our boat's cushions and have washed them in my washing machine as well -- only one cushion at a time. Afterwards I put them in the drier on low for about 15 minutes then took them out to hang dry. I didn't have any problem getting them back onto the cushions either and they were really clean.
