WTB - Volvo MD7A Single Lever Cockpit Control

Post by sealark »

I am looking to replace the Single Lever Cockpit Control for my MD7A lever. I am in the process of reinstalling an MD7A - and the original control in my boat is completely frozen. I have spent hours trying to fix with no luck.

I am wondering if anyone out there replaced their MD7A (and installed new controls) and still has the old control lever laying around they would let go for a fair price.

Not sure if other Volvo's used the same control.

Thanks.

This isn't exactly what you are looking for but the boats that I have seen with that engine use a standard Morse (part of Teleflex) unit. The specific unit that I have seen is no longer made but they make a few replacement ones.

I feel that Morse's products are very cheaply made and not well engineered. I replaced a throttle this summer on a boat and we went with the kobelt unit which was far superior. This unit is so much better than the Morse one that it is hard to even describe. It is completely made of cast bronze not pot metal but it is 50% more expensive.

The problem with getting a new unit is that it most likely won't fit the hole that you already have for it. Your idea of getting a working used on should definitely be the easiest to install. If you go out and purchase on though, do yourself a favor and get a kobelt.
