August 15th - USCG tug Hawser heading westward towards the Queensboro Bridge. She was traveling at nearly hull spead and her wake sent us rolling wildly. Keep in mind that we were passing a construction barge at the time with NO WAKE signs posted all over the place.

<a href="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... G_1287.jpg" target="_blank"><img width="600" src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... 7.jpg"></a>
August 15th - Bruce snapped these photos of the Hawser for our friend Paul who, when he was in the USCG, served aboard the Hawser. When Paul saw the photos, he said he didn't think the Hawser could go that fast and that we must have a really slow boat.

Cathy, this is fun, but we need more participants! There must be pictures from the Great Lakes, the Gulf, and all the other scenic spots Cape Dorys are found.

Raft Up in Llama Cove. A few years back there was a Llama that would frequent the shoreline. Some freakin redneck shot it!

Rhapsody as seen from the raft of larger boats. There were storms in the forecast so I anchored off. PS Big Awning by Ariel Canvas and Sails (van den Burgh).

Here's one of my favorite photos of KAYLA under sail. The picture was taken off a motor boat out of our marina and eventually passed on to me.

Yes it is fun and I'm glad we're finally getting to see photos from others even if we are a small group. I've included some info on how to do it at the end of my posts and I've done it again in this one. Hopefully folks will try it.

Hi Ben,

The yankee is on a Schaefer 2100 and the staysail's on a Schaefer 750.

These photos were taken while we were in Oyster Bay, NY at the beginning of our summer cruise. I spent an entire afternoon re-adjusting the two forestays. There was too much sag for my liking and too much vibration, so I removed the sails, disassembled the furlers, made my adjustments to the turnbuckles, then put everything back together again. To remove the drums I had to remove the lines so these photos were taken after the lines went back on but before the cages were adjusted.

<a href="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... G_1001.jpg" target="_blank"><img width="600" src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... 1.jpg"></a>

<a href="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... G_1002.jpg" target="_blank"><img width="600" src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... 2.jpg"></a>

The photo below was snapped near the end of our cruise and you can see that the cages are adjusted to that the furling lines run fair and free without chafing on the cages. Note the two lines running along the staysail boom. The white line is the staysail sheet and the white line with red fleck is the outhaul. Both lines run parallel to each other along the coach roof and back to the cockpit where they run through sheet stoppers and then to the same winch.

Dave,

Did you set the camera on the deck to get this photo?

Yes.

And although the CD is beautiful, this is what it's really all about: Three generations sailing together.

Dave of Ariel,

In some of those excellent photos it looks like you have no roller furling. In others it looks like you do. What's up with that?

August 15th - We passed this schooner in Buttermilk Channel while she was dousing her sails for the trip eastward through the East River.

<a href="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... G_1290.jpg" target="_blank"><img width="600" src="http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c349/ ... 0.jpg"></a>
The wind picked up nicely soon afterwards and we had a nice sail back to Morgan, NJ.

August 15th - On our way home we managed to find ourselves in the middle of a race. We had to do alot of fancy maneuvering to get through the boats while trying not to make any of them maneuver past us. Anyway, we spotted fellow CDSOA member Joe Karger and crew, aboard his CD32 Manitou, in the middle of the pack. We head up into the wind and let our sails flog to let Manitou past and Bruce snapped this photo. Then I ducked Realization behind her.

thoughts, and questions...

Post by Troy Scott »

David,
The skipper of the (slouchy) IP should not have been surprised.

Michael,
What is that colorful sail called? It looks flatter than some of the aspins I've seen, so I'm guessing it's more of a reacher or drifter.

Cathy,
That's your Flasher, right?
Regards,
Troy Scott
