CD27 FOR'D CABIN DOOR QUESTION......

Post by Yves Feder W1UX »

On our '77 CD27, there is of course a door between the main cabin and the head compartment.

However there is nothing between the for'd cabin (V-berths) and the head.

Do later year model CD27's have a door there? Or has anyone on the list made up something?

I'd much appreciate hearing from anyone with a door in that location.... how it is installed, and so on.

Pretty sure I'd like to make something up in the woodshop here that would work, gotta decide how big and which way to make it swing, or whether it should be louvered, or even "accordion" construction to take up less space :)

Thanks for any reports/ideas!!

My CD27 1977 Hull #66 does not have a door either. The door feature was part of the later model years. I am still wondering what year the the change was made.

My 1980 CD27 (#159) appears to have come with a bifold door between the main cabin and the head and nothing between the fwd cabin and head.

A former owner removed the door and replaced it with a curtain. This seems a much better arrangement as it provides privacy when needed without taking up space in the cabin or blocking passage. I have not reinstalled the door.

I would recommend you consider such a curtain instead of building a door. The curtain is cheaper, lighter, and doesn't obstruct the cabin. You can stow it totally out of the way.

I too have a 1977 Cape Dory 27 (#35) "London". It has a solid wood door between the main cabin and the head. Nothing between the head and the V-Berths. When we need it, I string an elastic cord with a crude curtain across this opening.

Cheers.
