I think I had better plan for 10am.
We are the slowest ones, so it is pretty important we get there to show everyone how to get going....

Ratings run from 294 to -72. I just hope I am upwind of the big boys when they roll over us.

The starting sequence has been amended, with a one hour delay. First boats are now off at 1100.

By the way, spin and non-spin fleets start at the same time. Same course but separate start and finish lines.

PHRF of Ty Sr. is 294. The Sabre 28 ketch that starts at the same time has PHRF of 207. Most (but maybe not all) of the spin fleet will finish before we do. It makes for lots of dirty air but it's a nice show. (With heavy fog last year, it gaves us clues to where the next mark was.)

South side Gallops is good on a North wind. The chart shows 4', but it's more like 10' with a good mud bottom.

Not sure if I'm heading down today, or in the morning before the race. The 11am start makes a morning trip easier than in the past.

PS John, after weighing the tradeoff of sailing at night or returning in the wind/rain Sun, I think I will adopt you plan and return home on Sat after the race.

Inner harbor, no, but there's a Red Line station in North Quincy. We can get him there or perhaps, alternatively, give him a ride into town. Where exactly does he need to be and when?

Final results for yesterday's regatta:

11 boats raced in our class; 39 started in the overall non-spin fleet; 3 didn’t start (weather on Friday was hard on the out of town boats).

Congrats to the Typhoon Sr. SURFSIDE, finishing first in class, 11th in fleet, 1st female skipper and 1st Cape Dory.
CD28 TANTALUS finished 1st in the one-design group, 4th in fleet and 23rd overall.
CD28 LIQUIDITY finished 8th in fleet, and 30th overall.
CD25 SPRITE finished 9th in fleet and 31st overall.

We’ll also add Typhoon Sr. to the CDSOA Northeast Fleet plaque for best average finish place by Cape Dory size class for the 2009 race.

Congrats to skipper and crew of Surfside and Tantalus and kudos to all the Cape Dorys that made it!

Wind and seas kept the Duxbury fleet in the harbor on Friday. Stan attempted to make the trip. We didn't even try. He reported wind on the nose and 8' seas.

Sounds like it was a great race day. Very disappointed we couldn't be there. How was the Peddocks Island float-in?

It was great seeing you guys again! The BHIR is always a great time, and 2009 was no exception. A little rough and rolly outside the harbor, the first leg of the race was a challenging beat into the wind, flooding tide, rolling swell, and a huge fast ferry or two.

How was the Peddocks Island float-in?A

We missed you guys!

Looking at the weather and Sailflow models, I didn't think it possible for the Duxbury Fleet to make it to Boston. Winds were really howling out of the North. I couldn't even get the bow stickers on Friday until the wind settled down a bit. The Friday weather also killed off the Peddocks Isand float in - nobody could get there Friday.

Tantalus & crew set sail for Boston at dawn on race day (Saturday), and the seas were still very lumpy from Friday's strong North winds. We also scooted back home after the race riding a good 18kt SE wind through lumpy seas again, all to avoid the rainy slop of Sunday (today). We were back on our mooring just at sunset.

We look forward to seeing Annie Goldie, and Nonsly, at the 2010 BHIR!

I will take all the blame for our disappointing finish - it was my job to lock the prop and I forgot!

It was a beautiful day with some really great sailing especially on the last leg. John and his crew sailed a great race from start to finish. It was a good thing we had binocs!

What a great time yesterday! It was a lot of fun seeing all those boats. Neil & I were near each other for most of the race. We each took a different final tack about 15 minutes before the finish and crossed the line within a boat length -- great fun! I'll post our pictures later. We arrived in Salem at about 8pm after a super fast and rolly ride.

Also, I owe a huge thanks to Neil and the LIQUIDITY crew for taking my crew back to shore after the race. That was a huge help. The dinghy transfer was a impressive exercise in seamanship by your crew.
