Original Battery Location CD-33
The subject line is self-explanatory - where was/were that/those battery/ies originally located?
Mine reside in the port lazarette on the shelf formally occupied by the water heater.
I'd like to move them back to their original location and reinstall a water heater.
Thanks

You might find a better location for some of the new water heater.
My boat originally had a Raritan heater on a shelf with the batteries mounted behind it. My new 4 Gal. Isotherm is mounted under the cockpit sole, right behind the engine. This allowed me to move the batteries all the way foreward in the cockpit locker. I was also able to cut away part of the shelf so that the cockpit drain, seacock is now much easier to access.
I figured the water heater wanted to be where it was hot anyway, Steve.

Batteries
Rover has a shelf in the port cockpit locker. When we bought her, the water heater was located far forward (almost inaccessible), with two batteries on the shelf to the aft of the heater. The batteries sit crossways to the shelf. I assume this was the original setup. We extended the shelf aft to have a dedicated starting battery and two 6V house batteries. It's quite a bit of weight in one spot, however, and there's no doubt a better arrangement.

battery location
Willow also had the batteries aft of the old water heater, with all that weight aft I relocated them. Having three water tanks seemed more than I needed on the Great Lakes consequently I removed the amid ship tank on the starboard side and created storage for three batteries plus my tools and spare parts. Each battery has its own compartment . it's convenient and sits lower reducing a little of the stern squat. The shelf in the port locker now holds a new hot water heater which has better access.

Batteries
Bandolera II came with the original setup: an older model Raritan water heater located farthest forward on the shelf in the port locker. Two smaLL car batteries were located immediately after the water heater, on the same shelf.
when the water heater expired from rust and corrosion and had to be replaced, I made the shelf longer and stronger. Put in an Atlantic 4 gal. water heater -which I have never used anway- and replaced my entire housebank. Now, in that shelf I have two group 27 gel cell batteries which are wired in parallel to a third battery in the starboard locker. This gives me a total of 240 amps for the house bank. I also added an extra group 24 gel cell battery inside the port salon settee, dedicated as a backup for the engine.
