CD25-dinette post question

just purchased '81 C.D.25'. Owner deceased and its been out of water for few years. Inside cabin found aluminum/stainless post sticking up out of teak floor for dinette table. Can't seem to budge this 3' diameter post. I presume it must come out, does anyone know? before I try to rock it and break teak flooring I'd like to make sure its removable, any help would be appreciated.

We have a '75' CD25. To increase space below, we took the entire assembly out. Our post did come out by itself and then we removed the floor plate. Have you tried oil between the post and plate? We don't have teak floors - fibreglass so we had to do a little plugging. Maybe someone out there with an 81 has more info.

I also have a similiar post in my CD26 (early model). A gentle rocking usually does the trick to free it up...wood frame around metal floor receptacle socket...

Hi Peg,
My '78 had a post that was fused into the base. The post is steel, and the base is aluminum - a bad mix. Galvanics fused to two together. The ends of the post are tapered, not straight, so use care. I got mine apart by unscrewing the aluminum base from the floor and pressing from the back side. This is the only direction (upward) that you should push, due to the taper. Lots of WD-40 may help, and you may need to find a "just right" size disk to push on. I ended up using this and a hydraulic press.

Sand and stuff falls down in the hole which is tapered. After a while the post gets jammed tight. I ran into this the first time I tried to make up the double berth after having dinner at the table in my brother-in-law's Tartan. Glad he had the problem because I'm really careful now with the post in my 25D. Try tapping gently back and forth while pulling up on the post. WD-40 may help.

Bob, the post is tapered, and should lift straight upward. If it has seized in place, and won't come free with gentle rocking and pulling after you've soaked the base with kerosene, the best way to loosen it is to twist and turn it horizontally. You might try one of those bottle-lid openers for extra leverage, or one of those oil-filter removers. Failing all else, you could drill horizontal holes and insert a steel rod through the post for twisting leverage. The holes should be as low as you can comfortably drill them, and no bigger than you need. Good luck.
