Can you recommend a marina in Rhode Island

We are looking for a mooring in RI for next season and are curious as to where others are mooring their CD's. We are considering Jamestown, Wickford and East Greenwich. Any input would be appreciated. We will have a vehicle but would like to walk to dinner and shopping. They must also be dog friendly and have clean facilities.

I have had good experience with Conanicut Marina - excellent launch service, competent service department and good facilities.

During our summer cruise this year we visited East Greenwich and got a mooring from Norton's Shipyard & Marina. They have slips as well.

Greenwich Cove is pretty well sheltered and the folks at the marina seemed very friendly, especially the launch drivers. The marina has a really nice ship's store which we took advantage of and it's an easy walk, though up hill all the way, into town where there are LOTS of shops and restaurants. We had lunch one day at Fat Belly's Pub on Main Street and dinner a Pal's Restaurant on Division Street. There's also a restaurant on the marina's property called McKinley's. The marina has restrooms, showers, a picnic area and an area for walking your dog. If I were looking for a place to keep my boat in RI, I would consider Norton's if only for its location. Of course we only visited, I sure you can get better info from somebody who actually keeps their boat there.

I kept a variety of sailboats in Rhode Island over a period of about 15 years. Spent 2 at Apponaug Harbor Marina in Warwick, a mostly locals place, inexpensive, shallow at low tide, and very minimal services. Not personally recommended. I spent several at Bristol Marine in Bristol Harbor, very scenic, decent services, a classic sailing harbor, somwhat pricey, and wide open to the south so often quite rocky in the afternoons. I would return to Bristol Marine. Am familiar with many other marinas there so feel free to e-mail me with questions. Dutch Harbor Boatyard was purchased a few years ago by a North Kingstown firefighter and has a reputation for good, friendly service. On the other side of Jamestown, Conanicut Marina is first class, excellent services, across the harbor from Newport, but very expensive. There are various Brewers yards around, all have excellent services but are expensive. Over in Tiverton on the Sakonnet River there are some decent marinas for fair prices. If you want to go way up the bay, there are a few marinas in the East Providence area that are decent and inexpensive, but it is a long sail out of the bay to open water if you want to go anywhere. As Cathy said, East Greenwich is a good place to keep a boat, and Norton's is an excellent, friendly yard. I had many friends there who were quite satisfied. There are another couple there as well, but Norton's has the most services. Good luck.

I have recently pulled up a mooring at Norton's before I head back South. Nice. The slips on dock C can get a bit rocky in a NE blow but still not too bad. You can walk to town.

I'm going to look at Brewers Wickford Cove marina this week for winter storage, they seem to have good rates and Wickford is such a pretty harbor.
