beautiful

Post by henry hey »

I was out in lake Montauk yesterday riding my little rocket http://www.flickr.com/photos/heyness/1261490949/ and I saw this beautiful looking boat come in and drop anchor.

I made several quick circles around it before I finally decided to inquire with the owner. I yelled over. . "Cape Dory 30 MkII? That's my best guess". My guess was correct. I was telling the owner how beautiful his boat was, and he to appreciated my little rig but for different reasons.

I now have a renewed lust for that CD30mkII. It's no wonder why they are of the most sought after amongst the CD crowd.

I assume you know, but if not, there are two CD 30s MkIIs for sale on Yachtworld.com. Both in eastern Mass. Both look really nice.

As we are fellow CDers, I waive any "finders fee" I might otherwise be entitled to receive :D :D :D

If only I had the means to purchase such a boat!

The timing isn't right (right now).

Henry,

Get in line!! What an absolutely fabulous boat!! Some years back I almost bought the late Dick Feffer's boat (absolutely in glorious shape) but I just couldn't swing it at the time. I think if he threw his dog Holly into the deal I would have bought it!!!

Julie and I saw and ad for one this past winter and we seriously were considering it. And, if you've never been inside one...well then....you're in for a treat. There's alot of boat packed into those 30 feet. A GREAT layout.

I've been aboard Macht Nichts and Adamarie a few times and they are just great. And Mike Heintz knows that the only reason I've been friends with him all these years is because I envy his boat. Otherwise, I'd probably have nothing to do with him!!!

36 vs. 30MKii

Post by drb9 »

How would you compare the MKii to the 36? There are lots of 36s out there, and obviously slips would be more. But, I'm curious what you get on the 36 that you don't on the MKii, and vice-versa.

Well. . .

Post by henry hey »

with the 36, you get higher yard bills, higher slip cost and more bottom paint to buy! :D

36 vs CD 30 MK II

Post by Michael Heintz »

There is no question that you get more overall room on a 36 and I think the other advantage is a dedicated nav station.

The MKII is just the biggest 30 footer you can experience. Cape Dory bumped out the beam to 10.6". This created a lot of space.

The T shaped cockpit makes for comfortable room.

The MKII is nothing like the standard 30.

This is a great cruising boat, my wife and I have cruised for months at a time. At the same time it's easy to handle singlehanded!!!!

Here's a photo (circa 2003 or 4 I think) of my wife Julie and me aboard Sine Qua Non in the foreground and CD 30 MKIIs Macht Nichts flying only the genny and Adamarie following, as we left West Harbor in Oyster Bay for a race of about 7 nautical miles to Sheffield Island off Norwalk. Great wind that day and a glorious sail. Those are beautiful boats although its hard to tell from this distant vantage point.

Rendezvous....

Post by Michael Heintz »

Hey Warren,

I think that was a part of the Rendezvous that year........ Wasn't that the year I presented Leo with the Captain Crunch award?

We had that great dinner on Sheffield Island.
