Squeaky Typhoon Rudder

Post by Chris Stump »

Under way my tiller/rudder moans when pulled to port. On the hard it's louder and in both directions.
Obviously something wants a bit of lube. What kind of lube and where?
Thanks for all the great help I know is coming!!

i believe there is just the rudder post and a couple of bronze bushings. probably you have an accumulation of grunge between these surfaces. try removing the tiller and the tiller mount on the rudder post. shoot liberal amounts of wd40 between the top bushing and the rudder post. work the rudder back and forth. wd40 evaporates off so give it what it needs. my '76 moans a little but the bushings are far from worn out.
