"Mast depression on the coachroof is solved by adding a beefed-up compression post. " This came from an article from the June 2008 issue of Sailing Magazine. I have this problem and wondered if anyone else has been faced with this complication. How did you solve the problem? I presume a "compression post" goes between the base of the mast and rests on the keel.
My weekender is a 1976 that I just purchased and have in my driveway for a major overhaul.

If you go to the "Search" area of this site and type in "compression post Weekender" (search ALL words) you will get a list of many threads discussing this issue. Some of the posts have pictures of different types of compression posts and methods of installation.
I, luckily, do not (yet) have this issue on S/V Tadpole. However, if memory serves, your description is accurate. A metal post with plates at top and bottom is inserted vertically from the underside of the mast tabernacle (inside the cabin) to the cabin floor. If I recall, some folks installed a system whereby they could incrementally "raise" the post (make it longer) so of like a tire jack stand.
This post prevents installation of a porta potty. Some folks I believe solved this by making the compression post removable as needed to move in the porta potty.
The "Search" section should give you many ideas and some photos.
