I'm running a Yamaha 9.9 in a CD 25. Reliability has gone so looking to replace. Any suggestions? Like the 9.9 power but will anything pivot in the well for better directional backing up capability. (Coming out of the slip is an event every time!). thinking along the Honda 4-cycle line.

Suggested Repalcement Outboards for Cape Dory 25?

can't help with swivel
but list recommended 6HP Nissan/Tohatsu which came with SPRITE. I have found it entirely adequate to any situation. Slip or Dock entry is interesting, but I think that has a lot more to do with lack of experience...

Hi David,
If you search the board for CD25 and outboard, you'll most likely see posts from me as well. My CD25 came to me with an old 9.9 that was both very heavy and too big to pivot much.
I replaced it with a Nissan (aka: Tahotsu) 6hp 4-stroke that fit well, powered against heavy winds, was "turn-able" for backing and, most important to me, easy to pull out of the well for stowage on the cabin sole. It was also easy to put back in the well when needed, even in rough conditions.
I was lucky to dock in a marina that I could sail in and out of most of the time, but the 6hp was always enough for when I needed it.

Nissan/Tohatsu 6HP Sail Pro
I own a CD25 and just bought a new Nissan/Tohatsu 6HP Sail Pro this year and its been really great. It fits in the well no problem and I have had enough power with no problems against wind and tide and the motor runs great (although a bit loud). Also, it is lighter than the 8HP two stroke I had before. I personally love the ease of a 4 stroke with no mixing of gas. The Sail Pro version has a longer shaft than usual (25" instead of 20"), has a battery charger, and the right pitch prop for a sailboat.
