4-stroke in Cape Dory 25 well?

OK, its time for the annual round up of how to get a Tohatsu or Yamaha 4-stroke outboard in to the well of my Cape Dory 25.

The Tohatsu 8HP and 9.8HP are the same size, and the Yamaha 8HP and 9.9HP are the same size. The Tohatsu is considerably less expensive, but is a bit longer front-to-back.

Any tricks on moving the motor mounting board, or avoiding raising the hatch while trying to squeeze it all in behind the traveller are much appreciated.

First get 2" SS angle iron w/ backing plates to replace the inappropriate
originals.
Reposition mounting board as far forward as possible.
Put 2" blocks under the cover hinges to allow needed extra height clearance.

Did it work out? I have a Typhoon Senior and I am trying to get the Tohatsu 8 HP to work - get the hatch closed.
Any advise? I have not yet purchased the engine.

8 hp is way too much weight and motor for a Typhoon, IMHO.
A 2 hp pushes my CD 25 just fine in calm conditions. I wish to unload my 8 hp Honda and get a 4 hp 2 stroke, so I can lift it out of the well
once out of the inlet.

I am currently using a Yamaha 8hp (2 stroke) to move my CD28. As far as pushing power - it works quite well. I agree with Dick - 8hp on a Typhoon Senior seems like a lot. As far as weight - lifting my Yamaha on and off is NOT EASY - and it is pretty light - as far as 8hp outboards go.

I once bought a Typhoon Weekender that came with an 8HP two stroke. As a bonus I also got a couple of hundred pounds of lead the guy had up in the bow to balance the boat. I never did sail it with that motor hanging on the back.

Hey, I still have that motor, in virtually new conditions with an alternator in it if anyone is interested. I am not parting with the lead, Steve.
