Cape Dory 25 #762 (1980) For Sale / Two Ways

Post by Dave Jeffery »

Cape Dory 25 #762 is for sale, one of two ways.

1. I refinish exterior teak, replace 3 feet of damaged toe rail, clean and spiff up the hull, deck, cabin: $7,200

2. You do that work: $6,600.

Location: On the hard at Tilghman Island, Maryland Eastern Shore, mid-Chesapeake Bay.

"Glimmer," under the name "Mary Ellen," was cover girl and featured in the Nov.-Dec 2005 issue of "Good Old Boat" magazine, when she was owned by Carter Brey, whose posts have enlightened and entertained us on the Board.

Vessel Details: To follow the boat's progress through Carter's ownership, go to "Cape Dory Owners Web Sites" on this Board, and scroll down to "Cape Dory 25."

Major additions/changes since then:

Bottom stripped, sanded, faired, epoxy barrier coat applied, new bottom paint, renewed annually.
New mainsail (and main cover) built 2006, first used 2007: like new condition.
Harken roller furling system for headstay installed 2007
New roller furling 130 genoa on order from North Sails Direct. (Old one not usable.)
Bronze through hulls replaced gate valves 2007.
Speedo removed 2007. [one less hole in hull]

Minor additons/changes:

New stainless Vent-O-Mate solar powered ventilator added to fore harch.
Bronze screens added to opening bronze portlights.
Sogemon flexible netting screens for main hatch, fore hatch.
Custom boom awning/tent built for use at anchor or in port.

Needed:

Interior cushions need replacing (at least fabric part)

Only one way now

Post by Dave Jeffery »

I've decided to do all the spiff-up work on "Glimmer" myself, beginning the first week in April.

The new 130 roller-furling genoa from North Direct is now ready to ship.

She's still for sale, but when I get her as near-Bristol as I can, maybe I'll be so smitten again that I'll keep her. We'll see.

Note on missing link

Post by Dave Jeffery »

Carter Brey has taken down the website for his former CD25, which I now have for sale.

So those who are interested in this craft may be disappointed in not being able to find that information here.

I will recombine listings of his improvements with my own and post relevant photos within two weeks or so--probably with a fresh start under a new subject heading.

However, I'll be happy to answer any questions I can in the meantime.

Thanks,

Dave J.

Thank God somebody backed up the Internet. This boat is great and this web site explains a lot of the things I want to do.

Renewal underway

Post by Dave Jeffery »

The damaged toe rail has been replaced, faired, and scarfed in nicely. Renewal of other exterior teak is underway. Yearly tuneup of Nissan 6 hp 4-stroke is in the hands of a great local mechanic. New genoa by North Sails Direct has arrived. Progress continues.

Slowed up on refinishing by family illness but expect to get back to the scrapers, sanders, and other chores soon.

I got stuck in some weird loop that kept posting the sold word.

I'm the new owner!

Post by Jay B. »

My wife Jennifer and I are the proud new owners of Glimmer! We had a great experience buying her from Dave and want to thank him for the smooth transition of this great boat.

We spent our first weekend on her over the 4th and had a great time. We sailed on Saturday in fairly brisk winds and loved every minute of it. We're fairly new to sailing and have alot to learn but we are sure that the CD25 is the best boat for us to learn on. I love the way she handles the rough, choppy water in the bay.

We'll try and make regular posts as we spend more time with our new Cape Dory.
