I have a weekender typhoon.I was installing a boom vang.My question is how far back on the boom do i install the vang.

I am curious what the consensus is for whether or not I install a boom vang on my Typhoon Daysailer. Any feedback, both positive and negativek, would be appreciated.

I installed a vang last spring using the measurements provided above in this thread. It worked well and was a big help in sailing off the wind.

On both of my prior Tys, I added a vang using Harken bullet blocks with 4-to1 purchase. I would also strongly suggest having a lot of extra tail on the line so you can also use the vang for lowering and raising the mast by setting the jib halyard so that the vang is very short and attached between the halyard and the foredeck.

It's not. I took the jib halyard to the bow, attached the the vang ("compressed") between the halyard and the jib tack shackle then tightened the jib halyard and put it on the cleat. Next I would loosen the upper & lower shrouds some and then disconnect the fore stay. With the extra long tail on the vang, I would ease the mast back a little from the cabin top and then get in the cockpit and slowly lower until I could reach the mast. While lowering, always check that nothing is hung up or kinked. With my CD25, I would also have to remove the forward pin on the mast step before lowering.

Near the bottom of the mast, below the turning blocks for the main and jib halyard, is a space large enough in the sail track to install a small strap eye with 2 ss bolts ( about 1/2") washers, lock washers, and nuts. Then fasten the lower block of the vang to the strap with a shackle. It worked fine for me. Chris
