I am a diehard Thistle sailor who is getting a bit long in the tooth, and have been blessed with two very very young daughters who love to sail. I am thinking seriously of finally getting into a family boat, Gawd help me, and of course Cape Dory's are boss. I will be sailing mostly in and around the Pamlico Sound and the Chesapeake, gunkholing and racing as I can, thus the CD270's retractable centerboard and shallow draft are big draws. And of course,...being a lifelong Thistler, her lines call to me..sweetly. I need to hear more about the boat. It's handling characteristics, comfort qualities, and all the bitching and praising that I can find. Good. Bad. I just want to learn more about the boat. In the end, most likely, being a mean and stingy Scot mind yah, I would also like to hear the where's and how much. But first things first....Please E-mail me. clanthompson@coastalnet.com

Re: Hunt up the CDSOA (anyone know when they meet?)
You will find out a lot just by reading this message board, of course.
Also, if you are in the Chesapeake area, you might want to contact the Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Association, which is based in that area. They've stopped sending me their newsletter again, so I don't know when they're meeting, but if you can go to a meeting you will find lots of folks to ask about Cape Dorys.

Re: Hunt up the CDSOA (anyone know when they meet?)
The Cape Dory Sailboat Owners Association last met on Nov. 8, 1997, near Baltimore- Washington Airport. The next meeting is scheduled for sometime in February, most likely in Solomons, MD. We would welcome anyone interested to join us then. You may contact Jim Turner at jturner@net-gate.com for memership information or look under "Where to Look" off this website. The CDSOA newsletter, "Masthead", comes out "bi-monthly"...and I'm looking at the September/ October edition, so I guess another one is due soon.

Re: Interested in learning more about CD270's.
Randy: Just bought CD270 hull no 006 in July. We lived aboard all summer with our two teenagers on Long Island Sound. We really love the boat and would be happy to pass along any info that you need.
