1974 CD25 Hungry for Information

I just closed on a 1974 CD25 and am hungry for whatever information is out there for that vintage CD25. One question I have deals with mast-mounted halyard winches. It appears my vessel had one at one time (looks like it was "sawn" off). Was that the standard setup? If so, what size winch was it and is it worth going back to that setup? Currently, it appears the sails are "muscled up" without the benefit of mechanical advantage, or, perhaps, the coaming winches are employed. Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated. I have a 79' CD25 and am in the process of a major restoration.
My boat has a set of mast mounted "pads" for both the starboard and port side winches. I have only one port winch of the old flat-head handle generation. I'm planning on installing one on the starboard.

It sounds like someone was in the middle of converting your CD to cockpit controls and then gave up...?

Now is a good time for a decision: do you want to run your rigging from the cockpit or the deck?
It's a feel thing.
I'm a new traditionalist. I like the deck. Other people, not so much.

Check e-bay. There were some traditional bronze winches listed but I'm not sure the size,

I have a 1975 CD25. It has a mast mounted winch on the port side. Use it regularily to hoist up the main.

Spending that much time onboard, I am very curious what you did about waste storage--waste treatment--and waste discharge? I have sailed a CD 25 for years, and our porta-potty gets full after a couple of days. So what did you do with your discharge? I doubt that there is much space on the CD 25 for an adequate holding tank. Maybe you can enlighten me.

I have a 1981 CD25 with a single winch on the port side. Since the jib/genoa requires less mechanical advantage I swapped halyards from the traditional jib on port main on starboard and only use the single winch. The winch on my boat is a chromed Lewmar #6. Winches in this range run about $100. In bronze it might be about $20 more. Lewmar is still making this size winch (with engineering upgrades of course). However I have bcome enamored with the Anderson winches as they have a better design. Hope this helps.

I have 1973 CD25 that i purchased with just the headsail winch. I have now installed a winch for the main sail as well. Of course you have to fix the gooseneck to make it work. I purchased all four new winches. Lewmar 6's

As a former owner of a 1974 cd25 mine only had one winch on the port side that I used to haul up the jib. The main I hauled up by hand useing the cleat on the mast, for some extra power Iwould the halyard around the cleat with my left hand and pull on the standing part with my right hand. I was told by the former owner this was the way it was set up to be used.

I bought a 73 cd25 three years ago. The previous owner told me it was hull number twelve. I was just wondering if you knew yours. I'm interested in knowing who has the other 11 and how many are still afloat.
