Boatex Dinghy

Boatex Dinghy
Thank you to all those who responded to my recent inquiry concerning issues relating to an inflatable dinghy. As an alternative choice, we are also considering an 8'hard dinghy manufactured by Boatex of Ontario Canada. Any feedback about this particular dinghy will be most appreciated.
Re: Boatex Dinghy
Brian,
I recall getting information from the company when I was dumping my Zodiac. If I remember correctly, it was a high quality dinghy with a real nice design that offered an optional sailing attachment. I think the cost was more than I wanted to spend ($1,800??) and it was too heavy for my needs. Also, I believe you have to pay for the shipping costs because they have no dealer network.

Re: Boatex Dinghy
Brian,
I have (or rather, had) a Boatex 7ft. It is an excellent dinghy, well-made with very pretty curves. It rowed well into the steep chop that builds up where my boat is moored.
For delivery, the builder makes an annual run to the Annapolis Boat show. We made a rendezvous on his route, and I took delivery at a truck-stop on I81.
Unfortunately, it fell victim to hurricane Floyd last fall: I pulled it well up onto the beach, but I didn't anticipate the height of the waves, and it was sucked down into the lake and pounded in the surf. The power of the sea is incredible even on an inland lake!
I was going to buy a new one (8ft this time), but when I saw the price of the Walker Bay (less than half the price), I couldn't justify the cost of the Boatex.
Regards,
Richard.
