Specs. on the CD28

Post by Jamie »

I am interested in the Cape Dory 28. I want a good sturdy boat and was wondering about specs/info such as: water capacity; if there is an oven and if not is there room to add one; is the boat 28 overall or does that inc. bowsprit. And finally, does anyone have or know of one for sale that is in good condition for a good price. Most I see are asking between 19,999 and 25,000, that is too high for me as when you convert into Canadian dollars you are talking mucho denero. Any help or answers would be greatly appreciated.

The CD28 is certainly a sturdy boat... I have a '77.

water capacity: About 25 gallons on mine... water tank under the v-berth.

is an oven and if not is there room to add one: no oven... not much room under the stove... but with some modification, probably could work.

28 overall or does that inc. bowsprit: Add the bowsprit and it's over 29'... which is what the marinas charge on, btw.

know of one for sale: no, but check out Soundings. They have a searchable site.

Most I see are asking between 19,999 and 25,000: That's about right, depending on condition.

You will find the basic specs for the Cape Dory 28 and most of the other Cape Dory boats by clicking on "About Cape Dorys" at the top of the Message Board page. (We don't list water capacity and standard equipment, though.)

(Some day I've got to post the specs for the rest of the CD models ...)

I have a CD 28, also a '77 model, and the only reason I would sell it is to go up to a CD 33. But we could talk. You'll find these boats hold their price fairly well, so $20K is about right. I put $4K into an engine overhaul last winter after seeing considerable buildup in the seawater coolant system, and figured the whole engine could use the work. Most of the onboard gear is standard, and much of it is original and still works well. I've got a new main (in '96) and jib (in '95). It is now, and has been stored inside each of the past five winters, and before that it was in Oriental, NC, in the water all year . . . at the yard where it was first christened.

What else do you want to know? Oh, don't worry about an oven. I'll teach you gourmet cooking on the stove top . . . no one really needs an oven, even off shore.

>I am interested in the Cape Dory 28. I want a good sturdy boat and was wondering about specs/info such as:
- It is a good sturdy boat!
>water capacity
- Our 87 holds 60 gallons in two tanks.
> if there is an oven and if not is there room to add one
- no oven, and I can't see it being too easy to add one.
> is the boat 28 overall or does that inc. bowsprit.
- 29' 11" inc. bowsprit.
