Airmar is now making a new ultrasonic wind transducer:
PB200
Given how problematic traditional mechanical wind transducers are, this could solve a ton of problems. Plus it includes a GPS (not sure why, but ok!), does temp and a barometer as well, plus it has fancy gyros and such to keep the wind angle accurate even when heeled, very cool.
Panbo wrote a review of it with very high praise:

I wonder how much it will cost? It is not on market yet. Given what a traditional wind transducer cost, which is already very spendy, I am betting this thing will be $2500+. Still very cool though, especially considering Panbos autopilot experiences.
Very cool, new kind of wind transducer

but where to mount it?
What a great concept - fulfilling multiple roles. Finding a good place to mount it might be the hardest decision...

3-Axis Accelerometer!!!
I am not too sure what one of those does but it sounds pretty cool! Seems like it would give you all kinds of braggin rights, comparing readings, with your buddies.
