hot water

Post by Brian Hickson »

Do any of you fellow CD25D owners have hot water and shower? What equipment would need to be installed and what expense should be anticipated? How many gallons are used in a quick shower? Is it worth the expense and maintenance? What are the drawbacks and headaches? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

West Marine web site has thing called 'WEST ADVISOR'. It has a detailed drawing for installing hot water pressure system. Wet, water off, soap on, water on & rinse. When you think about it it is not much water(with this method). -6 gal. rectangle or round shape are @$200to $400, 12 gal a little more. Don't forget the "T"connection where hot & cold water mix(when looking at picture). You only need one pressure water($80) pump. . You will have to find your engine water intake and outlet to connect water heater heat exchanger. Water goes into your engine , out to water heater, back from heater to engine.(this water heats the other water in your water heater)

Brian,
The Westerbeke-equipped models already have domestic hot water and the shower etc. But they are fresh-water(not raw)cooled. I think Yanmar has a fresh water cooling kit for the small engines which would then hook into a heat exchanger for the domestic hot water system. There's no maintenance involved, winterizing is a little complicated but that's about it. There's a thread on the BBs discussing installing the heat exchanger that, if I remember, is quite a problem. Good luck..
