I've seen a number of references to outboards on Typhoons which seem to indicate that owners do not leave their motors on the transoms all the time. My question is "Where do you put it when its not on the transom?" If you lay it down in the cabin, doesn't it leak gas/oil/exhaust fouled water all over the place? I am a new Typhoon owner (new owner, older boat) and have a 5 hp Mercury long shaft with alternator from a previous boat which I intend to use. Its a little heavy for hoisting in and out but, likewise, somewhat heavy to leave hanging on the transom all the time.

if you are going to remove it and store inside, better not get much more than 2-4 hp and the lightest one you can find. mine came with a '76 6hp Johnson longshaft. It does weigh the back down a little, but i put a gel battery in the very front of the bilge and store sails, etc in the front of the v-berth to help balance. those i have seen take their motor off usually store it in one of the cockpit seat lockers
