Cape Dory in wedding

Post by Weekender74 »

Hey guys,

Since we didn't get married on the water and leave in the Typhoon, we decided to have our Cape Dory done in my groom's cake. Thought y'all might get a kick out of this. Had everything right down to the logo on the mainsail. It was completely edible, too.

BTW, I lost my rudder before the wedding and I can't seem to find a link to building one! Gotta get her sailing soon before I change my mind and keep my powerboat! Can someone PM the link- I think there's one somewhere, isn't there?

If you have to build one I have done it before on my last boat so can give you some pointers if needed. Also I am right across Mobile Bay at Turner Marine on the Dog River.

Nice cake. Beautiful bride :) Lucky groom

Here is a link (I think) to a post by Oswego John discussing making a new Typhoon rudder. He suggested the other person who started that thread send him a PM for template info, etc. I am sure he will do the same for you. He's an expert at that stuff.

Fantastic!....congratulations and best wishes.

Hey, do you ever watch Ace of Cakes on the Food Network? It looks like the kind of cake those guys would have made.

Yes, we do! Great show! My wife did both of our cakes, as a matter of fact. She has a business on the side (used to have a cake shop) doing high-end wedding cakes. They can be really neat, but take hours and hours of work to be done from scratch. Thanks for the compliment!

Anna and I will be getting married in April, and we have talked about having a Cape Dory 30 ketch wedding cake. A good friend of Anna's will be getting the cake as a wedding gift so I don't know what we will get .

I wasn't quite sure how you meant this when I read your post. Many of us lose our rudder AFTER the wedding. But I gather you meant something different judging by the sense of the responders ;o))

It was a fantastic cake and I admire the person who made cake.
