Hopelesly addicted

Post by BillyO »

So,now it is November. What do I do I do for the next 5 to 6 months in New Hampshire
Went for the last great sail today in Lake Winnipesaukee until Ice comes out of Lake in Late April.
We have fallen in love again with sailing-- in no small measure to the great CD22.
My question should be is there a 12 Step program or rehab center somewhere close by to get me through this.
I wake up in morning thinking of a close reach in about 15 Kts.
I actually pleasantly visualize the whole experience.
God, I am addicted. ---
Keep it humorous.

My program...

Post by wingreen »

There are two simple steps to healing in my program:

1) admit you have a problem.
2) go sailing

Sailing and "addiction."

Post by BillyO »

Yes, I guess so. The truly wonderful thing that my wife and I notice about the experience is that there is very little, if any, mind wandering while we sail. This may be different for you more experienced folk.
With us though, the "theatre of the mind" comes to a halt and a wonderful focus takes place.
I wonder if this fucus tends to remain as we progress ???

It's great that you share this healthy addiction with someone, your wife. While my wife doesn't have the sailing addiction. She does accept and enable my sailing habit. She even participates with weekly cruising in Hingham Bay. Now that my CD25 is on the hard, I have some withdrawal symptoms.

Not exactly a cure, but take a trip to Florida. :) There are a lot of Cape Dory owners who would be pleased to have you aboard their Cape Dory for a day or even a few days of sailing.

The next 4-5 months are the absolute best time to be in South Florida. Mild day temps, lower night temps, low or very low humidity, steady and predictable easterly breezes, etc. Oh, as if this were not enough, I am told there are also a LOT of pretty girls in bikinis. I, of course, have never really spent much time looking

Making it through the winter

Post by Sea Owl »

BillyO;

Easy fix -

Step One: bolt two chairs to a piece of plywood.
Step Two: Wedge plywood so that is listing to port or starboard by 15 degrees.
Step Three: Pour you and spouse rum.
Step Four: Sit in chairs with fan blowing from appropriate direction, close eyes, drink rum.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 as necessary! :D

For added authenticity, set up sprinkler to splash water on you!

:D

Also, add viewing videos of sailing from internet....

Is it Spring yet?

I'm trying to forestall my "doing without" for a while. Lucky me and a sailing relative are going sailing in the British Virgin Islands for 10 days in December. A place created for sailing if there ever was one.

When I get back, then the withdrawal signs will set in. The usual first signs of this are the old sailing magazines around the house being read cover to cover over and over again until the new ones arrive each month, when the process starts all over again!!

I'm glad to know that my condition is not a TERMILALLY UNIQUE one.
I may have to start a support group.

Take as much of the boat stuff home as possible.
Organize boat stuff.
Reorganize boat stuff.
Whip, splice, sew and repair.
Buy 2009 tide and current book.
Study charts, plot courses and plan cruises.
Go to boat show.
Update GPS waypoints for latest plots and plans.
Reorganize boat stuff.
Organize boat stuff.
Take cover off!

The last item, for me, is around March 15. So only about 4 months from now!
Fair winds, Neil

Always a tough week

Post by Ron M. »

I know the feeling well. Within 3 days my 2 primary passions came to their yearly conclusions. Boat hauled out last Thursday, umpired my last baseball double header Sat. - Whoa is me..... some self medication is in order, but I need to winterize first.
Spring training starts in about 12 weeks.....the following month it will be time to get the vessel ready for launch.
We had some nice fall sailing days this year.

While note quite as toasty as South Florida, KAYLA's home port of Niceville FL does allow us to sail year round, and as Sea Hunt states, guest are always welcome... come on down, but please email ahead! :D
