Sorry to hear about the loss of your boat and glad you weren't hurt. That's good you were compensated to your satisfaction.

Yes, I first heard of the suction effect you describe in an old National Geographic article about training ship captains at a simulator. It is due to the Bernoulli Principle and occurs between a ship and a channel side or between two ships. I found this link that discusses it:

I bought a typhoon this weekend. It is a big change from the CD 30 K but it will at least keep me sailing until I find larger CD.
