Hatch dimensions for a CD26/25D

Post by BillNH »

I'm planning to build a winter hatchboard for my 26D, but I forgot to get the dimensions last time I was over at the boat (which is about 100 miles away right now).

Can anyome help me with overall hatchboard dimensions from a 26 or 25D? I've posted a quick sketch below of the dimensions I need...

Thanks in advance...

You really need a template since you need to get the angles correct. The best method is to trace the outline of each board on craft paper. Don't forget to measure the thinkness of the boards as well.

Although nice, a template isn't really necessary here. If measured carefully those 4 measurements on my diagram will define all the dimensions and angles necessary to build a temporary hatchboard... The two bases and slant height define one unique isosceles trapezoid, and the overall height will give me the camber for the top edge. There are other measurements that can be used to pin down the shape of an isosceles trapezoid (like the diagonal distance, for example) but the ones I specified are the easiest to obtain. It's really just a simple geometry problem...

This is just for a rough hatchboard that will be used under the winter cover, primarily to keep critters out (and snow in the unlikely event of the cover collapsing...) so the tolerances are not as fine as if these were the regular teak hatchboards for day-to-day use... I'm reasonably confident that the hatchboards from a sistership are close enough to mine for this purpose.

Measurements from my 25D hatch boards:

My hatch boards happen to be in my kitchen. Here are my measurements:

A: 1' 7"

B: 1' 11 1/2"

C: 2'

D: 2' 1/2"

They are 3/4" thick.

Hope this helps you :D

a 25D has the same companionway as a 26D?

That's pretty interesting. One less thing for the factory to have stocked.
