Bomar Hatch Gasket

Post by Chuck OBrien »

I have a 1980 Cape Dory 36 with the standard Bomar 139 medium hatches. I'd like to replace the gaskets but am having difficulity finding a source. Would appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

Chuck:

I found that the gasket material which I got for my Spartan Portlights is the same size needed for the Bowmars.

Here is a link to where I got a 100 foot roll of Weather-Resistant EPDM Foam Rubber Cord 1/2" Diameter.- Under $40.00 for the roll.

This roll did all ten ports and both hatches on my boat with plenty left over to do my brothers CD33 as well. Remember, the foam starts off round and after a few weeks of being closed tight, it develops a flat surface where it comes in contact with the port or hatch.

Sail on

You can also order the stuff directly from Bomar.

Bomar Part# P100-52 (gasket material sold by the foot)

Bomar Part# P100-50 (gasket glue)

The gasket material from Pompanette/Bomar comes backed with a tenacious adhesive so you don't need the "gasket glue." What you do need is a couple of drops of Crazy Glue just to glue the ends of the gasket together. This typically is done using a 45 degree scarf joint, and the joint typically is positioned on the hatch's aft edge.

Excellent advice on the joint and its location. Follow Stan's directions.
