CD 25 Trailering Questions.

Can anyone tell me if I need brakes on a trailer for a CD25? Am looking at a dual axle trailer w/o brake system. Have never pulled a CD25. What should I expect?

Dave,
I pulled a CD25 for many years. I would recommend a trailer with brakes. However, if you're only going a short distance and you have a big tow vehicle you might get away with it. But the brakes are better. I've used both surge brakes and electric. Electric is more work initally but does a better job. You may be able to retrofit brakes to the trailer if you're mechanically inclined.
Good Luck.

Dave,

I have recently purchased a two axle trailer with hydraulic surge brake. We recently moved our boat from our marina to our house for winter storage. While I was impressed by how well it towed, it felt heavier than I expected. The boat is listed at 4,000 lbs. but it felt more like 6,000 lbs. having the brakes is a good idea. Good luck.

Dave
Most states have a point where trailer brakes are required. If I remember correctly, most of the states put that limit around 3000 lbs.
On that basis, you would definately need brakes for the CD25. The NADA boat quide will give you a state by state requirement in the first few pages of their quide. If you can't find one, and plan on trailering in only certain states, email me and I can look it up.
