After a particularly windy fall I have decided to have reef points put in my Typhoon mainsail and to order a small storm jib to keep the boat balanced. Would welcome any advice on sailmakers as well as information on what size reef(s) I should have, and what size I should make the jib. Also, is the storm jib necessary, or will I be able to get along with my working jib?

Re: storm jib
with a single set of reef points in the main and the working jib up front the typhoon will handle a lot of wind. any good sailmaker will be able to properly position the first set of reef points for you. this will generally bring the head of the main down equal with the head of the working jib. you will be surprised at how well a single set of reef points will stabilize the boat in winds up to 25 knots and gusts to 30 and it sure is an exciting ride.
Re: storm jib
I put a single reef point in the main of my Typhoon several years ago and have been very pleased with the results. I use the reef points with my working jib and find the boat very balanced.
Good luck
