Well the motor mount job is finished. Engine is aligned and the whole thing works like a champ -- for now at least. The two rear mounts were certainly old -- one was kind of soft and the other was kind of hard. I expect that they really were not doing their job. I'm glad to have replaced them because you couldn't really get to them for inspection. The only way to actually inspect them was to remove the engine.
If anyone is curious about the procedure I'll be glad to discuss it. One note of caution -- don't try to lift your engine using a jack from beneath. On the CD33 the floor of the small bilge under the engine is also the ceiling of the holding tank. I cracked the fiberglass when trying to lift the engine using a small hydraulic jack (dumb move!). I eventually lifted the engine using a come-along suspended from a 4X4 placed across the companion way.

AM CONSIDERING BUYING A CD THAT NEEDS ENGINE WORK..or a new one..
Has anyone removed the engine from a cd27??? How did you do it? it can result in a $1000 savings if I remove and replace it..
I understand a reputable Yanmar mechanic has said it has low compression and frozen (cracked rings) this could result at the very least in rebuiling it.
Has anyone had the opportunity to chose between a rebuilt or new engine???
what did you decide on doing??
