Look at Scanmar's page: www.selfsteer.com. It looks like the Navik comes with a universal mounting system, unlike the monitor which is custom-fit for each boat model.

Scanmar also publshes a promotional booklet called "self-steering" which talks about various strategies, including the servo-pendulum used on the navik and monitor vanes. They have a video which is pretty informative about on installing the Monitor.

I also found a booklet about self-steering systems at Amazon published by the Amateur Yacht Research Association that details a history of these devices. There's a newer book called "Self-Steering Under Sail: Autopilot and Wind Steering Systems" by Peter Christian Forthmann that probably has what you want.

I recently read some stuff in a Pardy book that stresses the reduction of friction in all the lines and blocks. I would contact Scanmar as they sell the Navik and would probably be willing to help.
