Once again we delivered Femme to her mooring in Grand Marais, MN last weekend. Not a monumental journey or cruise, but hey, we got to celebrate somehow- it's sailing!
It was cold and windy on the nose as we motorsailed from Schooner Bay WI by the Apostle Islands across the sea lanes for the lake freighters to the little town of Grand Marais.
If the wind would have been a few degrees more West we would have had a wonderful beat on one tack but since this was a "delivery" my crew of one nephew and I poured on the horsepower of the mighty Universal.
Passing Grand Marais light a little after twelve hours later, we took bets on how little fuel we had left. To my great joy we used less than two inches on the stick. We were both amazed.
Though this was quite tame compared to our trip two years ago where we saw 45 knots of wind and large, short period waves, it was still cold enough to warrant caution, and the prospect of a night below freezing out there was not appealing.
Anyway, she did great and I hope the Hurth transmission loves the new ATF as much as I loved changing it out!
