Enjoyed that.

When fishing with that reel, do you just tie it off on a cleat or something? Is your method easier than using a rod/reel?

Thanks,
Cathy

Hand Line Fishing

Post by eb1smith »

Cathy: It is the hand line fishing technique. I used catfish line (350 lb. test) and tied it to braided fishing line (150 lb test) and then have a stainless steel leader at the end. The reel is know as a Cuban Hand Reel. Then you let out a couple of boat lengths and cleate it off. I also have a bungee cord on the line to set the hook and let me know when I have something on the line.

Link to a company that sells the lines and better information:

The cuban yo-yo is by far the more common and prefered method of fishing by long range cruisers, setup exactly as described above. While I dont fish personally, most people I know use this method.
