Where is Sea Hunt?
I have been checking this board with great anticipation to hear about Sea Hunt's first sail. With no updates from him, my imagination is starting to run wild.
-Has he embarked on a transatlantic journey?
-Did he run off with a mermaid?
-Did he sink s/v Tadpole because of those darned looped hoses?
The suspense is overwhelming.

It's only been nine days. Hopefully he is just out savoring the joys of boat ownership, either sailing or maintenance... Or maybe he has 2ft itis and is starting the search for his next boat

House woes
I know he was facing significant house woes after a burst hot water heater flooded his place. So my guess is that he is getting all the bailing time he needs right now at home.
Or maybe he is just waiting to email from the Azores...

Gary, Rich, Dean and all:
Sorry for the lack of updates. No excuse.
Dean, yes, the "Great Flood of 2008" (broken hot water heater) delayed my efforts to raise canvas on Tadpole by about three weeks.
I have been out sailing several times on Tadpole. She is a wonderful sailboat, especially for a rookie sailor to learn on. In fact, I was out yesterday for several hours in 13-14 kt winds - the highest I have been out in so far Tadpole did great. We saw an Ensign (also designed by Carl Alberg) out on the Bay as well and crossed paths a few times. The Ensign is also moored at the same sailing club as Tadpole.
Raising and lowering the main has proven easier than anticipated. I disconnect the "pigtail" after the main is up and reattach it before I drop the main and gather up canvas. However, as suggested by Mr. Vigor and others I plan to install a proper topping lift the next time the mast is unstepped - whenever that may be.
I have been practising tacking and jibing. Single handed it is not pretty (yet ) but it gets done. I recall asking someone from the August 2007 Maine cruise who single hands a CD 28 how he did it single handed. His response stuck with me - "Hey, it ain't pretty. Who cares. It gets done."
I am grateful to those who suggested that I not make any significant modifications to Tadpole for a few months, including not installing a roller furler system. I have not done so.
I am thinking about doing an overnight in the area of Elliott Key in South Biscayne Bay. It is a pleasant 1/2 day sail down to Elliott Key. The only problem is that this time of year the mosquitos eat you alive at night. I would probably be sleeping on deck and a prime target for attack. Winter months are much better. I may just do a long day trip, although without running lights on Tadpole I will have to be careful about getting back to the sailing club before dark.
I think I may have made a mistake in installing 5/16" jib sheets on the original CD jib (100-110 ). The lines seem a little small to handle, although 5/16" is what is "spec'd" in the CD Owner's Manual. I would probably get 3/8".
Someone on this board was talking about installing a bowsprit on their Typhoon Weekender. I have researched the board and cannot find the thread. Not surprising. I am dumber than a rock at this stuff. IF that person is reading this thread, can you provide an update please. I think that is one item I would probably want to seriously consider adding to Tadpole.
Weather permitting I will be out on Tadpole again on Sunday or Monday.

Single handed tacking
That single-handed CD28 sailor also took home the class trophy back-to-back in the Boston Harbor Islands regatta. Don't trust him. He's a shark Seriously, you'll get better and better with practice. I single hand tack my cutter all the time, even when I have crew (read passengers) on-board. The first few times were pretty clumsy but we all have to take a few baby steps before we run.

Hello Darrell:
Good to hear from you
I am only a little familiar with "No Name Harbor". During one of my sailing classes we anchored overnight there. It was around Christmas/New Year's Eve and a portion of the South Florida Boat Parade motored in and around NNH. A steak, wine, clear sky and a lot of pretty girls on boats made for a memorable evening
Weather permitting, and assuming I am not taking a group scuba diving in the Keys that weekend (unlikely), I will try to make plans to sail over to NNH Sunday morning. It's about 138 T (143 M) out of the Dinner Key Channel (the main entrance to the sailing club mooring field).
Remember - Memorial Weekend is the start of "crazy boater season" in South Florida. Every guy who owns a boat and has not been out since Labor Day weekend (the end of "crazy boater season") is on the water, drinking and driving/acting crazy The only benefit is "bikini bunnys", some topless. I am so ashamed of myself.
By the way, will you be serving breakfast
When I sailed with the CDSOA fleet during the Maine cruise in August 2007 I seem to recall that when we anchored near Carl Thunberg's summer cottage, he rowed around to every boat in the fleet delivering FRESH BAKED HOT CINNAMON BUNS. The best
I am sure the South Florida Fleet will want to "best" the results of the CDSOA Northeast Fleet

Re: Typhoon bowsprit
Noone responded to Sea Hunt's request for bowsprit addition to Typhoon from 2008. So, 14 years later I'll ask the same....has anyone information on adding a bowsprit to a Typhoon for an additional/light wind headsail. I want to install an IFS Gennaker (furling without wire) setup.Sea Hunt wrote: Someone on this board was talking about installing a bowsprit on their Typhoon Weekender.
