Hi,
I am interested in knowing what the market price of a 1974 18ft weekender might be. The BUC book says 3100--3900, but the market price may be more or less. Does anyone know of any recent sales? I was looking for a used Marshall Sanderling to sail on Barnegat Bay and saw this boat for sail and its very fetching. The boat appears to be very well maintained. I haven't seen the sails yet, but they are probably good as well. The owner has a passion for restoring boats.

We just bought a 72 CD Weekender-it was in semi-sad shape & it was a little below the BUC price. The catboats in NJ cost a fortune.
We also sail in Barnegat Bay & offshore & our CD is the best sailor (this is after 25 years of other sailboats).
Half the fun of a CD (or any boat) is working on them & setting them up the way that you want.

Sandy, I just recently sold my 74 cd weekender here in portland or. as I moved up to an 82 cd 30 cutter. carpe diem (weekender) was in excellent shape. new bottom paint, black, hull in dark green with beige boot stripe, new top side non skid (beige) all new sails from north 155%genoa, 100% jib, cruising gennaker with sock, new blocks, halyards, sheets, new main with cunningham, single reef and foot shelf. standing rigging 3 yrs old. custom trailor, new fuse box, solar panel & battery. here in portland or. add 10-15% for location and another 10 for non salt to buc. value. needless to say I had more money into boat than I recieved. sold boat for $8750.00. which may seem high but was fair price for the detail and quality of work done plus it being an alberg. sorry to let it go but couldn't keep two boats. by the way every time I took it out I recieved at least 3 to 4 querys (what is that?!) and compliments on what a classic beauty.. best bet have a survey done by reputable marine s. then negociate best of luck benHi,

I found a 1976 Weekender in Chicago last year that I bought for $2500 which included a genoa and jib, a main in good shape, an old motor and a road worthy trailer. I felt that this was at the low end of the market. It needed some minor gelcoat repair, bottom paint was good, but most important the cabin top had not been caved in and no delaminaion or blisters. The market seems to run from the mid teens on a real rough boat to I thought a high of $6500, but as mentioned in the earlier message, very clean ones have brought much more. As far as sailing the boat it is a dream (even in light air if you have a light weight genoa)and you will get repeated compliments about how it looks like a boat should look. Good luck.

you should be able to find a weekender in good condition on the east coast for the book value. for a little cosmetic work on your part 3000 to 3500 should get you a good one. pristine with new sails and a trailer anywhere from 7000 to 10000. if this one is too much check the magazine "Soundings" - lots of listings for long island, barnegat and chesapeake bays.
