CD 27 Mounting A CQR

Post by Peter Baumgartner »

With the memory of last summer's drag across Lake Tashmoo fresh in my mind, I picked up a used 25 Lb CQR this week.

Has anyone mounted a bow roller on a CD 27 or CD 25? Or have some other method of securing and launching a plow anchor from our smaller foredecks?

Hi Peter
I have a 25# CQR mounted on a bowroller on my CD25. The rode drops thru a bronze hawsepipe into a custom fitted "box" below. The system works very well. If you are interested, I can e-mail you a couple of photos.

Hi Pete,

I added a bow sprite / anchor roller to my CD27 Lady Jane a year ago. I have a 22# Bruce on it. A CQR shouldn't be any problem. I sent some pictures to Bill Chapple showing the set up along with some the information on how I built it.

You mentioned Lake Tashmoo in your post so you may be in my area. I'm located in West Yarmouth on Cape Cod and Lady Jane is close by. You're welcome to take a look if you want.

She is currently up for sale (a CD33-36 is in my future) so the offer is open as long as I have her.

Mike;

I think you were one mooring row in front of me at Earl's Marina in Fairhaven? Where is your boat?

Pete

Pete,
Wrong boat. I have my own mooring in Hyannis Harbor.

We carry at 15-pound CQR on the cabin top, with the shank inboard of the Dorade box and with the plow hooked neatly around the aft end of the box. We bought the plow after having pulled out our Danforth several times while lying in reversing tides. Wish we'd gone 5 pounds heavier, but haven't dragged yet.

First time I've heard of anyone doing that. I think the 25 may be a bit too leggy, but I'll lay it out on the cabin top this afternoon and see how it looks. (My boat is out next to the garage)

Thanks.
Peter B.
