Re: Cap dory 33
My family and I currently own a CD '76 Typhoon Weekender that, in my opinion, is the best sailing "small yacht" that I've ever sailed on. Now if you compare this opinion, sailing a CD 33 would be an excellent sail, especially how Alberg designed their lines. In my experiences with the Cape Dory design, all blue water sailing has been considered "the best" be it light wind conditions or heavy, reefing-weather winds. Through being in 15 foot swells and motoring our Typhoon in the Northwestern part of the U.S., it handled like a dream-because of the large displacement. If that was a CD 33 going across the straights, then she would have had those waves saddled up. I hope this helps your decision in possible CD ownership,

Tomas, I currently own a Cape Dory 33 and have absolute confidence in her blue water ability. I sailed a Cape Dory 31 from the great lakes of michigan to Fiji a few years back 15,000 miles without any major problems. I have found both boats to be comfortable, well made and very seaworthy, not to mention very pleasing to the eye. If you have any further questions drop me a note. Good sailing, Paul Marti
