I just purchased a 1988 Cape Dory flybridge with a 270hp Chrysler. Does anyone know what kind of speed I can expect with this engine?

Also has anyone installed a diesel engine in one of these after pulling out the gas engine.. If so what engine did you install and what kind of speed are your getting.

Al, we have a 1986 CD. We bought it a few months ago (our 10th boat). In 1997 the gas engine was removed and a Cummins 210 installed. It does 14 knots at 2400 rpm and does about 20 knots WOT. Art

Our 28' CD Open (1987) originally had a Volvo TAMD diesel; now it
has the 210 Cummins diesel and our performance is about 16 knots
cruise at 2100 rpm, 20 knots wide open with a 20 inch 4-bladed propellor.
Cruise fuel consumption is about 7 GPH.

Al, I have a 1991 flybridge CD. She is powered by a 200 Volvo turbo. I burn between 7&8 gals. per hour with speeds at 13 to 16 knots depending on water conditions and tide. Top speed is 20 knots. I swing a 4 bladed prop.

Al I have an 89 with the Chrysler.I am very happy with it .I usualy cruise about 2900 RPM Which gives me 15 MPH.on the GPS .fuel at that runs 7 GPH.
