Has anyone installed a small sink in the CD27 head area? Would love to hear about any ideas anyone may have had on this interesting little challenge....

There was a discussion on this bboard several years ago about this.
Try a search, but it was more than 2 years ago.
A couple of years ago on this board someone wrote about a drawer with a sink that slid out over the head when the seat is down. It disappeared into the empty space behind the head when not in use. I do not recall whether the sliding sink was commissioned at the factory or whether an owner built it. I don't think there's any other way to put a sink in the head.
I certainly would *not* put a sink in place of the hanging locker (the only one on the boat). In a recent Sailing Magazine Robert Perry reviewed a new Dieter Empacher design which looked to me to be a re-issue of the CD270 (for $89,000!!!). The one thing he did not like was that a sink was placed where the hanging locker should be. Perry said in a boat this size one sink is enough. (That comment I would attribute to personal taste, however, I would not sacrifice the locker). If I were serious about a sink in the head I would consider the sliding sink to make the best use of that dead space behind the head.

Remedy, our CD27, has a sink in the head (and I think was the subject of the earlier discussion thread). The sink is fed by a foot pump just forward of the head pump, and the sink counter is mounted on two teak rails that extend along the bulkheads, which allow the sink to recess just below the port side shelf.
The faucet slides up and down in its mount, so it clears the shelf when stowed. The drain is currently a short section of hose that directs water into the head; I have considered running a hose to the bilge or galley sink through-hull, but we rarely use the head sink, especially after installing an electric pump in the galley sink.
I will look for pictures, and would be happy to send a sketch to anyone interested (or if you are in Rhode Island, come look at the boat).

Yes thanks all! Bob, Bill, Duncan..... I was able to find the old posts in the archives and Duncan this is indeed most interesting. I certainly agree that I wouldn't want to steal the space from the hanging locker...... I do woodworking so I might try your (Duncan's) approach! Somewhat original and interesting (!) but it may be OK.
Appreciate the responses very much.
Happy Christmas and New Year!!!
