Howdy Everyone,
Have you any experience mounting a windlass on a CD30<cutter>? If so, which make/model and where did it mount at? What changes and adaptations were needed to make it work?
I was looking at the Simpson Lawrence "Yachtsman" manual horizontal windlass (500 lb pull only), since it is their smallest footprint, and I cannot come up with a location that is out of the way of the staysail boom's gooseneck fitting and tower.
Any ideas would be appreciated, as I would like to have a small windlass available for lifting our chain in deep anchorages (60-80 ft. depth in spots on the North Shore of Superior, so 30 ft. of chain is hanging a long ways straight down on the rode. We use the main halyard winch now, but that practice is getting old).
TIA!

Has Anyone Mounted a Windlass on a CD30??

Re: Has Anyone Mounted a Windlass on a CD30??
We have a winch on CD30 " Dayspring ". It is a 12 volt horizontal axis
Powermate ( 501 I think ). It does not have a chain gypsy on it but we just take a turn around the rope drum with the chain and hold a little
weight on it. It is located on the inboard end of the bowsprit, works well, and doesnt get in the way.

Re: Has Anyone Mounted a Windlass on a CD30??
I have the SL mounted just aft of the bow sprit. A non-electric version. To use it with the stay sail in place I had to adapt an old torque wrench to move it through about a 45 degre arc to operate the winch. But I removed the stay sail and now simply use a winch handle to raise the anchor and it's 60 feet of chain. It works like a jewel with the rode and chain falling into the locker very neatly. The anchor is rigged on the starbord side of the head stay. Here in Florida we usually anchor in about 10 feet of water so I put out about 15 feet of rode to keep the boat quiet for the night. This has worked well for us. This lash-up is keeping this old guy sailing at least for a few more years. Good luck...
