I have looked through all the literature I have and find no information about the mast step (actually, the support under the mast step) for my 1974 CD 28. No problems - largely curiosity and the fact that my son is doing a load analysis for one of his engineering courses and would like to know how the mast loading is distributed into the hull structure. Anyone know the answer?? I thought I read somewhere that the early CD's had a concrete beam up there, but maybe that was another boat.
Any help would be most appreciated.

CD 28 Mast Step Arrangement

Re: CD 28 Mast Step Arrangement
I think somewhere in the owners manual it mentions that the mast step is an aluminum plate or beam. The "H" shaped piece on the deck is the aluminum support. This spreads the mast forces over a wider area and over the two bulkheads. I have drilled through mine and it is quite thick (1/4"). I have also put a 1/4" thick stainless steel plate under the mast step. This plate has attachment points for all kinds of blocks. Merry Christmas

I did the same thing, Russ. What types of blocks have you attached to that plate?

Actually not too much. I have two shackles that I use for the boom vang attached to it. I do however keep tying stuff to it. Nothing ever permanently but I never cease to be glad I have it there.
