Rigging modifications on a CD25

Post by Don Carr »

As one of many winter projects I am researching modifying my CD25 'roller reefing' to jiffy or slab reefing. I know this sounds contrary
to the practicality of roller reefing but my plans are to install a boom vang for a bit of sail performance. Looking for input from anyone who has done this mod. I have been in touch with UK sails and it seems like a fairly straight forward and relatively inexpensive mod for what I consider much benefit.

Don,

I added a boom vang to our 25D this Spring. It really improved off wind and down wind performance. Keeping the boom down greatly improves the shape of the main, and though the 25D is no rocket, we passed many folks we shouldn't have.

Sincerely,

Lee

If you are talking about "roller reefing" main (which think you are) then you will get much better sail shaped when reefed as well as better sail shape when employing the vang for down wind work.

Go for it.
